Hey...I just found this site while doing personal research on hairloss and bcp's. I'm so grateful at long last to know I'm not the only one out there that has had to deal with this crap!

First off let me say to all the women currently suffering the hair loss - it DEFINATELY does stop. Your hair will grow back...maybe not to its original thickness, but it will come back. I know - I've been there. It just takes a really freakin long time (for me 2 years). Be patient. Get hair vitamins (I think its Nature's Way(?) that makes a really good brand. Check at a good healthstore...They also have shakes you can drink in addition to vitamins.)Get off the pill, though. Here's my story - hope it helps:

About 3 years ago someone pointed out to me (much to my embarrasment)that I had a bald spot at the back of my head. My hair is also naturally very curly and (was) on the thicker side. At the time I was taking a low dose pill (can't remember brand) for cysts. Litereally within 2 mos after that my hair was coming out in clumps. The bald spot in the back had grown to huge balding areas. The front became much thinner as well. My hair texture also began to change from extremely curly to limp and wavy. I had to buy baby ponytail holders to hold my hair because it got so thin. (I couldn't wear it down because the patches became too noticable.) I had to wear the top of my hair back and then was finally forced to chop it really short and layered to cover the patches. Might I add I also suffered from really dry patches of scalp (much more than dandruff)as well as scalp burning. Needless to say it was BEYOND awful...I went to my physician, dermatologist and gyno. Underwent all sorts of bloodwork - (they thought it might be lupus) but all tests came back neg and they all told me it was AA and caused by stress. I finally asked my gyno if maybe it was the pill - she said she doubted it, but to stop taking it and see if it made a difference.

Well, it took almost 2 years, but I've watched my hair come to back to almost normal since then, although I was never 100% sure what caused the hairloss. Now here's where it gets REALLY INTERESTING...A month ago I asked my new gyno to put me on Yasmin since I heard it was the new wonder drug for PMDD (oh yes, I have that to contend with as well). Call me crazy (HA!), but since I was never really sure what caused the hair loss I thought I'd chance it figuring as my DR's all told me, it was AA and stress related.

Well, this is the first time since the original hair loss that I've attempted to use bcp's of any kind again. I've now been on Yasmin for one month and one week. And although last month I noticed a considerable difference with my moods and virtually no bloating,etc - guess what....MY HAIR IS BEGINNING TO COME OUT AGAIN!!!! I also feel like I have a bit of scalp burning. Ah yes, I put a call in to my DR this am, but I have as of this moment decided to immediately stop taking the pill...I cannot and will not go thru the trauma of hair loss again. I'd rather ride the emotional roller coaster of PMDD or try some other med than go thru this again. I just hope that I've caught it in time....I'll keep you all posted.
