I just wanted to give you some encouragement. I have been on spironolactone for over six years for hirsutism. It has really helped my decrease my facial hair (also arms and legs) and helped me to "keep" my scalp hair. I didn't really notice how much until recently.
I tried to wean myself off the spiro and noticed quite a lot of shedding of my scalp hair as well as increased facial hair. I decided to continue with my maintenance does of 100 mg a day. I will go back to 150 mg each day, if necessary, although the 100 mg "seems" to have decreased my shedding. I hope so!
Good luck to you. I am not on bcp and have had some irregular periods, but nothing major. Actually my gyn said that it could be my age and not the medication (I am 45). I am not sure if I was happy with that observation, but what are you going to do!!
