That is an excellent idea. I have some concerns regarding hair loss myself and would like to prevent it from happening to me. In this regard I looked for the best stuff out there, and it seems that the RU compound is the best thing going. I have gathered all the literature and think it looks very safe and effective. (I would disagree with all of those that say there are no studies in humans...you have not found all of the clinical work yet.) It is <1% systemically absorbed and has pharmacologically-inactive metabolites. There are no sources commercially, so I decided to look into synthesizing it myself. I am a doctoral student in medicinal chemistry and have done quite a bit of organic synthesis and analytical chemistry. I am still studying how feasible it would be. I have the proceedure from the 1994 Battmann paper and I can purchase all of the starting materials and have the know-how. (I work in a synthetic chemistry lab). I was hoping it would be a simple, one-pot reaction. The bad thing is that it is a hugely complicated 5-step reaction using phosgene (a tremendously lethal volatile reactant) with multiple purification steps, and it is a mediocre yield. I'll keep looking into it and post to anyone who is interested in an update. I will attempt the starting reactions in the next month. I only describe the difficulty of the proceedure so that anyone thinking that they have a source better have extreme confidence that the supplier has serious expertice in isothiocyanate and imidazolidine chemistry, and do not believe anyone that says they made it in anything but a fully-equipped synthetic lab, because if not, they do not have RU 58841...I guarantee it. So be careful all, and keep your heads up. The literature discussion sounds great...I'll stop by soon to check in on that.

take care,
