JeffT,

I wonder if I could tap your expertise and experience? You implied that in an earier question that you are a long term finasteride user and that your result are in accord with Merck 5 year results. I assume you mean that you grew hair in the first year or two then after your hair started to thin slowly.

The reason why I ask is that I have considered using finasteride but the 5 year results made me ask, "what the point?" I have seen Dr. David Whiting in Dallas and he said that although from years 2-5 the average patient starts to loses hair again, the rate is much less than control patients who are not using anything. This bring me to the important question: how is your rate of loss at year 4 or 5 compared to your rate of loss just before using finasteride?

Merck's data, however discouraging, suggests that after 5 years, the average patient still has greater hair counts at t=5 years compared to t=0. I'm hoping finasteride might give 5 years to make it to more effective treatments.

Thanks in advance,

jrf
