...how can we convince the rest of the world...that hairloss is a big deal and that science should pay more attention if the people experiencing hair loss can't even form a united group? I didn't want to post in support because it's filling up so I came here.

Several posters have talked in the past about how the medical and scientific world does not take hairloss seriously. I agree that there are many who don't, but I don't really know how widespread it is. What I do know is that if we are to effect any changes than those of us losing hair ought to be more of a unit and delve into snobbery over types of loss and gender issues. A while back, I went into the accutane forum looking for some information. Well, little Brian, who is obviously VERY young, told me that I should "get out because I'm supposed to go bald and they aren't so they have it worse". Supposed to go bald? Oh gee, I guess I should just accept my fate and not worry and the same for all you guys with MPB. And I think several members of that group agreed with him judging from their responses. If other members of the unfortunate committee of hairlossers can't see the importance of figuring things out and fighting hairloss, we will all be in a world of hurt. Why should any of us have to prove to *each other* that our concern over hairloss is valid. I'm assuming that most who come to these boards do so trying to find a treatment, if not a cure and want to do something. We have a hard enough time with our doctors taking us seriously. I have seen the same things in the women's forums. The ladies with TE make fun of the ladies with AGA and vice versa. If we spin our tires uselessly and act this way ourseleves how can we expect science and medicine to be any different? Attitudes need to change. And what about the gender issues? I have seen posts where people argue about who has it worse. Once again, a denial of the validation of our feelings by other hairloss victims. Every arguement like this puts us a few steps back for every step forward. It's expensive. Consider these things. Before posting, ask yourself, "What is my real goal".
