WHY DO YOU WANT TO KILL THIS ISSUE!?
I am simply supplying information for guys who want to know more about the drug. I have no *solid* predisposition about the efficacy of arimidex, regarding hairloss. On this matter I can only speculate (read below). I do, however, have an opinion on its effectiveness against the gynecomastic side effects of DHT inhibitors. Its fundamental purpose is to inhibit the aromatization of testosterone to estrogen, and elevated estrogen levels can build breast tissue in men.
Furthermore, numerous posters have claimed some regrowth on prior forums. Body chemistry is a curious thing. To say that estradiol is beneficial to hairloss is to assume that it would be a good idea to increase the levels of estradiol in the body. But what if there was more to the whole picture?
On a basic level, Le Chatlier's (spelling?) principal states that in an equilibrium reaction, to increase the concentration of reactant A means one of two things: 1) Make reactant B more rapidly or 2) Slow the production of reactant A until A has reacted to B and reached equilibrium concentration. Of course, that isn't what is directly happening in the body, but when speaking about DHT, estrogen, and testosterone, in a round about sort of way, it is, but in the form of a synthesis reaction…
Looking at this in respect to just aromatase and reductase enzymes, we've got an ‘equilibrium’ among three reactants: estradiols, testosterone, and DHT. Basically, estradiol<-testosterone->DHT
Long term, assuming that the body produces testosterone at a fairly constant rate, to decrease DHT with finasteride, etc. would mean an increase in free testosterone. Based on the logic presented above, the inhibition of a1&2 reductase enzymes would cascade to the ultimate increase of the overall estradiol concentration to above-normal levels. Why? Because there's more testosterone than usual!
This is as far as I can go without pure speculation. From this point forth, forum weary readers beware!
Maybe the reason some HairSite posters have regained lost hair while using Arimidex, but never on *just* DHT inhibitors is because the theory floating around in the paper that started this whole craze is correct, i.e. Estradiols are not beneficial for hairloss in *some* males whose hair is sensitive to DHT. Maybe some males who experience hair loss need lower estradiol & DHT levels to regain their hair, while others can regain simply with a-reductase inhibition. If you disagree with this, ask yourself why you are losing your hair and other men in your family are not... GENETICS!!! Genetics has deemed some men’s hair to be sensitive to DHT. Perhaps, of SOME of these men, genetics has also deemed their hair follicles to shrink based on the interaction of estradiol & DHT. Simply put, some men could lose their hair regardless of their estradiol level, & others could greatly benefit by taking an aromatase inhibitor or other estrogen blocker in lieu of an a-reductase inhibitor. Maybe estrogen amplifies the effects of DHT in some men.
When it all boils down to it, I really don’t know and no one else does either.
What do you think? Why do you think estradiols are beneficial for men who want to stop their hairloss? Could it be that estradiols are actually good in some and bad in others? If the answer is yes to that question, is that not an indictment on the level of estradiols each man should shoot for when fighting hairloss?
