O.K. I have attempted the procedure using real materials. My pill crusher only broke the already small tablet into even smaller pieces and did not produce a fine powder. I suppose that I could use a mortor and pestle daily but this seems inefficient. So, now I am back to square one.

How about dissolution of the tablet using a small amount of water? If I can soften the tablet using a small amount of water, enough to make the tablet crumbly, then it should mix easily into the dermovan using my fingers and the palm of my hand?

Does anyone else have any ideas? At this stage, it looks like I am going to have to go back to the morter & pestle mixing grinding technique.

I have found 1, 2, 5, 15, 25 ml measuring spoon set on the internet. I could use the 1 or 2 ml spoon to measure out a specific amount of Dermovan. Then instead of basing the dosage as mcg T3 per gram Dermovan I could indicate mcg T3 per cc Dermovan. This may be more practical than attempting to manufacture a daily dose.

Keith, I see why you did not make your attempt too scientific. This is ridiculously difficult to do precisely. I am just trying to be reasonably accurate so that when I report my results they will have some meaning with respect to the concentration/dosage used. Without the more advanced laboratory equipment, there always seems to be a problem no matter which direction I go.

I am in possession of the basic ingredients necessary to start my topical T3 trial. Specifically, I have

- 16 ounces dermovan = 454 grams dermovan

- 200 x 20 mcg tablets T3 = 4000 mcg T3

I have decided to use 10 mcg T3 applied twice daily at 12 hour intervals. I will be applying to the full hairline area down to my teenage hairline.

I will probably elect to apply 10 mcg T3 once daily for the 1st ten days of the experiment to determine if I will experience any negative side effects. I have the information from the package insert as to the specific side effects expected from T3 overdose.

The basic problem that I am still having is difficulty measuring an accurate amount of dermovan. I had decided to use a pill splitter to split the pill in two 10 mcg pieces and then use a pill crusher to grind the pill into powder. I was then going to extract 1 gram of dermovan with a syringe and mix the 10 mcg powder to produce the 10 mcg T3 per gram of dermovan.

I decided to use this method because I decided that it was more practical than trying to divide 16 ounces of dermovan accurately and then completely (satisfactorily) mix the T3 into the dermovan, and then accurately extract 1 gram of the T3/dermovan mixture to apply the correct 10 mcg dosage.

The problem is that I can not find a method to accurately extract 1 gram of dermovan. I tried a syringe both with and without a needle and neither produced an effective result. The syringe with the needle would only extract a small amount of dermovan from the sample holder. The syringe without the needle could extract the dermovan, but it was very difficult to just extract 1 gram from the sample holder, and the dermovan messily coated the outer edge of the syringe, resulting in wasted dermovan.

Unless someone can tell me an accurate way to measure 1 gram of dermovan, I am just going to use the pill splitter to split the 20 mcg T3 dosage tablet to obtain a 10 mcg T3 dosage tablet, use the pill crusher to powderize the tablet, and then mix the 10 mcg of powderized T3 in a suitable amount of dermovan to completely absorb the powder.

I think that this is the best solution for applying an accurate dosage (i.e. 10 mcg), as opposed to worrying about an exact concentration. I will consistantly apply this dosage to the same pre-defined area (within the limits of my ability to replicate this area) so that I am receiving the same concentration (within the limits of my mixing technique) per unit of area.

I am trying to make this as scientific as possible, but I think that I have reached the limits of my abilities and my equipment (not to mention my patience) in trying to do so.

I will monitor my results weekly and try to report on monthly intervals. I am afraid that I do not have access to a digital camera so I will not be able to document my work in that manner.

If any of you have any final thoughts please let me know. Keith, I am aware of your dosage/side effects concerns and I take full responsiblity for my own actions.
