Ephemeral Blackjack:

T3 taken orally does regrow hair in people with hairloss due to thyroid insufficiency. I don't think that anyone has claimed that taking it orally will help with androgenic alopecia.

Applying it topically is not the same as taking it systemically. There are a number of conditions in dermatology where the skin does not receive (properly uptake) the correct amount of a substance from the body for a variety of reasons, and the solution is to apply the substance directly to the skin.

I am going to try my experiment, in part based on Dr. Holick's experiment with topically applied T3 in mice and in part based on Keith's results. Since it has not been tried experimentally in humans, it is premature for you to state that it will be a waste - perhaps it will be and perhaps it will not be. I will let you know the results when I have completed my experiment.

In no case would I suggest that people try topical T3 to the exclusion of more proven treatments. I, for example, will continue to take 1 mg finasteride for the duration of my experiment.

CommonSense:

By the way, T3 (thyroid) is a hormone that has been around for many many decades. Many patients take too much of it because it gives them desired energy, and many other patients have thyroid glands that make too much thyroid hormone. My point--if thyroid grew hair, it would have been noticed long ago in individuals with too much systemic thyroid. Applying it topically is a waste. Let someone else but you try it first.
