Fred, I don't think you should waste a second of time worrying whether you're getting an "even" distribution of the minoxidil onto your scalp. Getting topicals in there has always been a problem with thicker hair, and I don't know of any particular tricks to assist in that. What I do is simply part my hair in several different places to try to expose the scalp, then apply the topical and try to work it in as best I can.
BTW, it should be comforting to you to know that Dr. Proctor says that topicals can affect the scalp even in places where you don't apply them; recently I found a topical minoxidil study which seems to support that idea...I hope to be posting about it soon. So what I'm saying is that it's not all that critical to get an "even application" of minoxidil. Just do the best you can, and don't worry about it.
