Castration & Dutasteride-Another bad comparison by Bryan

Bryan Shelton has consistantly compared castration and dutasteride. According to Bryan, castrated men do not have significant regrowth of hair so he believes that men taking dutasteride will not achieve significant regrowth. As usual, he couldn't be more wrong and his comparison more flawed.

"Sixty years ago, castration was shown to cause prostate cancer regression. Surgical castration became standard therapy. Medical castration is now possible using gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) analogues. These drugs are frequently more acceptable than surgery and are available as depot preparations. Residual weak androgens from the adrenal glands can be converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) within the prostate. **DHT levels post-castration can be 40% of normal.**" ******************************

Now if we look at the BPH trials of dutasteride 0.5mg. we have a 90% inhibition of DHT and after 24 weeks of use there is a 94% inhibition of DHT.

Hmmm, some simple math and we can see that the the comparison between castration and dutasteride is quite absurd. In other words, with castration DHT levels are 40% of normal, with Dutasteride DHT levels are 6%. Not comparable in any sense. Try again Bryan.

So ends the debate. Case closed.
