So everyone knows I took it upon myself to contact a doctor involved in the BPH trials of Dutasteride/Avodart. My question(s) and his reply are reprinted from the email I received today. I forwarded him some follow up questions regarding any "outstanding" responders. Hopefully he will respond with some positive comments.
Soulpt asked: "Dr. Roehrborn, I am aware that you were involved in testing a product recently approved by the FDA for BPH. As I am sure you are aware the chemical (dutasteride) has completed phase 2 testing for hair loss as well. I was hoping that you could answer a couple of questions for me regarding the product.
In your testing of Avodart for Glaxo-Wellcome did you notice any significant side effects of scalp hair growth for the test subjects? I am fully aware of the side effects and risks listed by GW but was curious if you observed this in any of the test subjects. Thank you in advance for your reply."
Dr. Roehrborn replied: "As in the case of finasteride, patients on dutasteride reported spontaneously increased growth of scalp hair. But, since this was not a main focus of the study, not systematic attempt was made to capture this."
