I just got off the phone with a Glaxo customer service representative and she indicated that Avodart would be available in the U.S. in December 2002. She wasn't sure if free samples would be given to doctors. She indicated that the pharamcies who actually call GSK and order Avodart will receive it before other pharmacies that wait to stock their shelves. In other words, get a prescription now and call it in to your local pharmacy and have them order it now. GSK also indicated that Dutasteride will be manufactured in France only, at least according to their customer service agent. It sucks that Dutasteride won't be available in October 2002. It looks like it's time for me to call my physician brother in-law and ask him to contact Glaxo as a health care professional and check if he can't get free samples. I guess it's usually generic drugs that are markted the day after approval and not the new drug entities like Dutasteride. Glaxo indicated that I could call back during the last week of November 2002 and at that time they might be able to provide more information as to which pharmacies will have Avodart first.
